Be sure to include a description of your budding business, as well as what products you would like to sell (include photos if possible).

The Southwest Edmonton Farmers' Market is a gathering place for community.  We have a large team of volunteer Steering Committee members and market day helpers that make the market run smoothly, and our Community Tent is a hub of activity on market days!

Every week, we host a non-profit organization in our Community Tent so they can connect with you about their invaluable work and services. This year, we are hosting over a dozen organizations ranging from the Edmonton Food Bank to our local Community Leagues and Children's Nature Programs.

Non-profit, community organizations are invited to apply to the Community Tent by filling out the application form found by clicking here.

VOLUNTEERING WITH SWEFM

If you are looking for a great way to connect with the SW Edmonton community and many other interesting volunteers and vendors, consider volunteering with the SWEFM!

Volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization! We are always on the look out for amazing individuals who are looking to get involved, either on market days or year-round with the Steering Committee.

Market Day Volunteers:

We ask that our market day volunteers be at least 14 years of age as there may be some light physical work involved in some roles. The roles we are seeking to fill include:

  • Shopper statistics gathering

  • Manning the SWEFM Information Tent

  • Assisting with market set-up

  • Assisting with market tear-down

Our Market Day volunteers work outside, support their community and local businesses, and receive some fun farmers' market perks every week!

SWEFM Steering Committee Volunteers

Do you love our local Farmers’ Market? Did you know that it is a not-for-profit organization, run by volunteers from many of the neighbourhoods that make up the Southwest Edmonton area? The volunteers and Steering Committee members are people committed to developing a vibrant gathering place for our community, but we need more help.

SWEFM volunteers are a hard-working bunch, dedicated to the Market’s vision of creating a unique, vibrant community gathering place where local farmers, producers, and artisans provide fresh, locally grown and homemade food and handmade goods for the people of Southwest Edmonton.

Meeting monthly throughout the year, the SWEFM Steering Committee directs and oversees Market operations. They scheme and plot, create and dream, crunch numbers, problem solve and forge connections as they plan for successful markets. They are passionately committed to fostering community relationships, helping their neighbours, friends, and family to create strong ties to the community, and strengthening the local economy.

Does this sound like you? Individuals with board or administration experience, financial know-how and community mindedness would be definite assets to the Steering Committee and the Market. If you are looking for a fun, social opportunity and would like to become involved in this exciting, vital, & successful entity, we would love to hear from you.

The Sprouts Program is BACK!!

Designed to empower children to choose healthy foods and lifestyles, the Sprouts Program is our flagship family program at SWEFM. All kids aged 4-12 are invited to join this free club to learn about healthy eating, cooking, and supporting local farmers.

HOW IT WORKS

Every week, children aged 4-12 visit the Sprouts Tent and receive a wooden token worth $2 to spend at our fruit and vegetable vendors. Sprouts also receive a kid-friendly recipe made with seasonal ingredients to learn valuable cooking skills and bring that produce into the kitchen! The program is completely free and open to children from all communities.

Become a Community Partner

The Southwest Edmonton Farmers’ Market is a non-profit Alberta Approved Farmers’ Market that’s been a fixture in this community since 2011. You’ll find us every Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot of the Terwillegar Community Rec Centre from May-October! SWEFM was started and is still organized by community volunteers who are passionate about creating a welcoming gathering place that promotes sustainable, healthy living and fosters a sense of belonging.

Community Partners provide much needed support that helps pay for rising operational expenses, keeping vendor fees low, and supports us to continue to provide opportunities for community connection.

Here are just some of the ways that your support can help:

  • Young Vendor Program - We aim to inspire entrepreneurship in young people by providing them with a free platform to showcase and sell their products at our market. By investing in the future of local youth, you can play a vital role in shaping a brighter, more entrepreneurial community.

  • Sprouts for Kids - Designed to empower children to choose healthy foods and lifestyles. Each week kids aged 4-12 receive a wooden token worth $2 to spend at our fruit and vegetable vendors and receive a kid-friendly recipe. Last year over $10,000 of local produce was provided to neighbourhood kids!

  • Community Tent - Supports local non-profits, charities, and community groups by providing a dedicated platform to share their mission and initiatives. Help us foster community engagement and awareness about important local causes.

  • Support Economic Growth - Many vendors at SWEFM are small scale businesses who face numerous challenges in the competitive food industry and rely on local markets as a primary source of income. We need your help to keep up with rising operational costs so we can ensure accessibility for local businesses.

  • Community Events - We pride ourselves on thoughtfully planned events that celebrate cultural diversity and facilitate social connections which foster a stronger, more connected, and resilient community.

We look to partner with like-minded neighbours, businesses, and organizations that value local food, sustainability and a healthy, connected community. Partnering with the Southwest Edmonton Farmers’ Market demonstrates your commitment to community, local agriculture and the building of a sustainable local food system.
